CREATION OF MAN

Separate from all other created things, man is made in God’s image.
Let Us – Genesis 1:27; 3:22; 11:7; points to the Godhead – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
ELOHIIM is Hebrew for God, is plural, Gods; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Titus 2:13
“Us” cannot refer to angels, angels are not equal to God.

Man is a triune human being, we have three parts: 1 Thessalonians 5:23

1. Body – Intelligence (brain) – animals have instinct, man has cognition.
2. Soul – Imagination – we think outside of the box, universe, beyond death.
3. Spirit – Emotions – the same as God, jealous, hatred, love, joy etc.

God has created us with the ability to come to know Him, all we need to do is seek for Him. Ecc.3:11;
God has great JOY when He creates man in His Image.

CREATION OF PARADISE

Peace comes when we are in fellowship with God through His word and in fellowship with others. Fellowship is sharing the Truth of His word with those around us and when we do we are at peace in our souls with God. Not the peace of this world, for there will always be wars, but the peace of Christ which He gives to us, John 14:27;

Genesis 2 is a detailed explanation of how God created man on Day Six. Man is made from dust Gen. 2:7; We did not evolve from the ocean, our chemical make-up is not compatible with ocean creatures. Man is a dirt bag. God makes the garden for man to live in and it is here God fashions woman from the rib, to be his helper, not his slave, nor his boss, the two become one.

In Paradise man is at peace:
1. Man walks with God – God is physical, so it must be the Christ, Gen. 3:8;
2. Man walks with creation – Genesis 2:15; Adam first gardener.
3. Man walks with woman – Genesis 1:28; be fruitful and multiply.

Age theory – though man is minutes old, he can name the animals, communicate with God and multiply with woman. But ask any scientist and he would say Adam would have to be at least 16 years old, but he wasn’t, he was created with age.

The world, the universe looks billions of years old, it is not, it was created with age. So is God is a great deceiver, for He made it look old and yet it is not old? No deception here, because God told us how long it took Him, your problem is not enough faith to believe Him. In fact the deceivers are those who say God said it took 6 days but in reality He lied, it’s all myth, it really took billions of years.

Genesis 3:1 Satan’s number one scheme to make us sin is, “Indeed has God said?” Satan places doubt in the heart of Eve, doubt replaces trust (faith) and destroys your soul. James 1:5-8; Indeed has God said? Indeed God has said!

“Indeed has God said?” is “THE LIE”. Ro. 1:25; Eph. 4:25; 2 Thes. 2:11; If you cannot accept the fact that God has created the universe in 6 days, no way will you ever believe the entire universe will be destroyed completely and every man who has ever lived shall be assigned to one of two eternal destinies and their mortal body shall put on an immortal body.  See 2Pe.3:10-13; Rev.21:1-4:

3 SINS LEAD UP TO THE FLOOD

1. Sin of Adam – partaking of the forbidden fruit. Genesis 3:6
      Satan’s number one tool – DOUBT – “Indeed has God said?”
     The Christians response “Indeed God HAS said!”
      Matthew 4:4,7,10; Jesus teaches trust in the Word – “It is written..”
     This is how to defeat temptation.

Temptation of Eve – 1 John 2:16; Genesis 3:6
    1. Lust of the eye – saw the tree was good for food.
    2. Lust of the flesh – delight to the eyes (she wanted it)
    3. Boastful Pride of Life – it was desirable to make one wise.
    Adam’s sin was to follow Eve’s stumble.

2. Sin of Cain – killed his brother Genesis 4:8
Cain’s name means ‘fabrication’. They were told what to sacrifice by God in Hebrews 11:4; by faith Abel offered a better sacrifice. Faith come by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ, Romans 10:17. So instead of obedience Cain fabricated his offering which is unacceptable to God. If your going to worship God then you have to do it by being obedience to the New Testament. Man made changes are a fabrication and condemned by God. See genealogy study in OT Studies.

3. Sin of the Sons of God – married the daughters of men Genesis 6:1-3
Sons of God are Seth’s lineage, Genesis 4:26. Daughter’s of men from Cain’s lineage. The godly married the ungodly, for their beauty and morals disappeared. Today the same is playing out, marriage is falling off, immorality on the rise. People see with their eyes not with their mind, disaster is inevitable.

THE FLOOD

It took 100 years to build the ark, Genesis 5:32; 7:6, whole world flooded, only 8 souls survived. Local flood theory, makes God to be foolish, why build an ark, just walk away from the flood zone. In 1 Peter 3:18-20; this text is saying, Christ, alive in the Spirit, preached to those in Noah’s day, through the preaching of Noah. They had a chance and rejected it. The ark can hold 550 box cars from a train. It would take 150 to hold all the animals, including the dinosaurs, of which babies would be placed on the ark. Leaving 400 box cars for food and?? More room for those who would repent! But no one did. God flooded the world to eliminate the sinfulness of men, which it is estimated that there were 1 billion souls at the time, to protect the righteous.

EFFECTS OF THE FLOOD

Greenhouse effect disappears, it rained 40 days and nights, waters above as seen in Day Two. During flood, water forces created all our Mountain Systems as we know them. World being flooded caused massive drop in temperature, creating ICE AGE. Greenhouse effect gone, oxygen no longer rich at earth’s surface, gigantisms no longer possible for dinosaurs of large size to survive once they came off ark. Dinosaur extinction: sun’s harmful rays now hit surface eliminating some species of plants thus eliminating some species of animals dependent upon the plants. No longer constant temperature, now hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards etc. Earthquakes, volcanoes, tidal waves, because of the flood, because of man’s sins. The world we live in suffers catastrophe’s not because God sends them but because man’s sin caused God to save us by flooding the earth leaving it in the fragile state as we know it today.

FRED FLINTSTONE THEORY

In Genesis 1:26; man had the ability to rule over the animals, in fact the animals don’t get the fear of men until after the flood, Genesis 9:2. Since the beginning of recorded history man has used animals to do his work for him, transportation, plowing, and even building. With block and tackle elephants have been used to do the grunt work of large building projects. The Bible teaches dinosaurs lived at the same time as man and that all the animals were vegetarians, Genesis 1:29-30. So if Noah and his 3 sons had to build such a massive box to float all the animals, why wouldn’t he take advantage of the large animals that he could rule and didn’t fear him?

GENEALOGIES OF GENESIS

Definitions come from the book "All the Men of the Bible" by Herbert Lockyer, Zondervan

One solid piece of evidence for inspiration of the scriptures is how God has communicated to us using lists of genealogies. Adam’s points to the coming Messiah and Shem’s points to the coming judgement day. Cain’s gives sound advice to live your life pleasing to God. Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

It is not hard to see these as sentences, but one can only understand them when one views them through the lens of Christ. So, it was impossible for Moses to invent these lists, especially in light of the wisdom and insight they contain, given by God.

John 3:13

Matthew 23:8

John 3:16-17

Hebrews 2:15

Hebrews 4:10

Man is appointed mortal. The Begotten, the Praise of God, He that descends, a Teacher, shall be sent to overthrow giving rest.

The author being Moses could not have written this list of names knowing what the sentence meant. But when we understand Christ and His sacrifice then the New Testament opens it up for our understanding.

Only knowing Christ gives us insight to the Begotten, who is the Praise of God, and it was the Lord who descended from heaven, sent by God, to overthrow sin and give us rest in this lifetime from our battles and stress with sin which we have no control over but now we have rest because we have forgiveness, thanks to the Begotten.

Paul used the Old Testament to reason with the Jews to prove Jesus was the Messiah. I wonder if he ever used the genealogies this way to help prove his point?

Enoch the teacher, number 7 on the list, was taken but we know he didn’t go to heaven John 3:13. He was taken at the age of 365 he lived a year of years and taken to Hades Luke 16:19f. Why? My belief is, he was a teacher with incredible insight as we see in Jude 14,15. And who is lonely in need of some insights to what was going on? Abel!

Who knows how long Abel’s been in Hades, it doesn’t seem many have died knowing the length of years of lives. So was Enoch, who walked with God taken when the wickedness of man was increasing and was he needed elsewhere to comfort those already taken? Interesting where insights to meanings of names can lead you. Not saying it is correct but it sure makes me think about my brother Enoch and adds a little more depth to my Biblical understandings. What’s it all good for, to challenge us to go even further into the rabbit hole than we ever thought possible. (Matrix lovers)

Acts 17:32

Fabrication of teachers makes wild donkeys which God is combating. Man of God must overthrow gliding away (personal desires), playing away (entertainment), flowing from fabrication (Academia).

If teachers do not teach the Truth but only tickle the ears, their students will end up being wild donkeys and this is what God is fighting against, false teachings.

The last 3 names are Lamech’s sons so they are grouped together as 3 temptations:
Gliding away = drifting from teachings of God’s Word
Playing away = world of entertainment (movies, sports etc.)
Flowing from fabrication = academia that which teaches evolution, denies Bible

I am not against researching and asking questions of God’s word but we have to stay within its parameters and not wander from the Truth. I am not against entertainment but it must keep its moral compass and too much of one thing can be detrimental to one’s spiritual health, an obsession possibly. I am not against academia, the search of knowledge, provided it doesn’t override and devalue the importance of Biblical studies.

Cain which means fabrication may give insight to God rejecting his offering Genesis 4:5. Faith comes by hearing Romans 10:17. By faith Able offered a better sacrifice Hebrews 11:4. Therefore God had to have told both of them what was needed to be sacrificed, by faith Abel obeyed and offered what God commanded. Cain fabricated, gave what he thought would be pleasing instead of obeying and his offering was rejected. What was needed on his part was to admit his mistake and do right next time but jealousy kicks in and he kills his brother Abel whose name means vapor. As James says in James 4:14.

Names are important to God and very insightful for us as we seek out that which God has concealed only to be revealed to those who diligently seek Him Hebrews 11:6. See the study on Ruth to realize importance of names to understand the book.

Moses wrote this in 1440 BC, educated by Egyptians, how in the world did he know how to make a sentence using people’s names? Moses couldn’t have written this on his own, obviously this is another piece of evidence for the inspiration of the Word.

2 Thessalonians 2:8

Hebrews 6:4-8

Romans 14:11

The Name, one that releases peace and new life, divides friends. The Branch slays all turning from exalted Father.

Jesus is the name, through which we get forgiveness by obedience which gives us spiritual peace and new life, we become a new creature.

The Branch, His returning, will slay all those who turned from God 1 Thessalonians 1:7-10. Those who did not know God nor obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Eber – means shoot, belongs not here or new life Isaiah 11:1; 53:2
Nahor – means slayer, breathing hard, snort, 2 Thessalonians 2:8
Terah – means turning or wandering

There is no way Moses could have penned this on his own, that the Name Jesus is that which saves men today and blesses us with peace and new life, dividing friendships. Then when the name comes physical, the Branch, the judgement day, when all who turned from God will be slain.  Okay maybe Moses wrote Cain’s lineage and it makes spiritual sense, with no prophecy in it. But there is no way he wrote for Adam’s or Shem’s genealogy, one has to have known Christ’s life in order to understand these two.

It is not a coincidence, for all three to make such powerful statements to Christians today, it was written by the Holy Spirit. The rest of the world cannot understand this, but we who have been blessed can. If we take time and continue to study the most incredible book in the history of time, who knows what other matters are concealed for us to search out.

“God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.”

Genesis 1:31a

WHEN WAS ABRAHAM CREDITED RIGHTEOUSNESS?

Many argue that as soon as one hears the Gospel and believes in his heart, he is saved, nothing to do. And they quote Romans 4:3; as evidence for this. ‘Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.’ But when did this happen? It was recorded when Abraham was in Canaan. Genesis 15:6; Years after living in Canaan. It did not happen when he was in… Ur, when he first heard the Word or in Haran. Acts 7:2-4; Genesis 11:31-32; His obedience to leaving his family and traveling to Canaan and remaining there was evidence that he had faith in God. This active faith is what was credited as righteousness. A faith James speaks about in James 2:14-26

Abraham first put the promises of God into action, before being reckoned as righteous. In fact he was disobedient by allowing his father to lead, so his father dies in Haran and Abraham gets the call again and this time he leads, taking Sarai and Lot. But he had to act upon the promises made by God to be considered righteous.

We too have to hear the promises of God and act upon them, Acts 2:37; upon hearing the gospel they responded by saying what shall we do? Acts 2:38 repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. As Abraham, so must we, believe in the promises and act upon them, Abraham left Ur and lived in Canaan, we leave our past lifestyle, REPENT and live in God’s kingdom by being baptized into Christ, Colossians 1:13

It is not a work that saved Abraham but an obedient faith, Romans 1:5; In Romans it is the works of the Law that Paul claims cannot save you, the Law given 400 yrs later. To get into relationship with God Abraham was told to move, his obedient faith did and that was his righteousness after he obeyed. To get into relationship with Christ we are told to be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins, and when we obey, that is our righteousness, a righteousness not our own, but when we put on Christ in baptism, we put on His righteousness.

SODOM NOT DESTROYED FOR HOMOSEXUALITY

Sodom Condemned for Arrogance

It was brought to my attention by a dear brother of min that Sodom was not destroyed because of homosexuality, that was their symptom not the cause.

Ezekiel 16:49-50; “…this was the guilt of your sister Sodom; she and her daughters had arrogance; abundant food and careless ease but she did not help the poor and needy. Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me. Therefore I removed them when I saw.”

Homosexuality is a symptom brought on by a society rich in abundance and too arrogant to care for her poor and needy. When this example is set, when the government and the churches no longer care for the poor and needy, then abominations are committed by the people of the country.

Many are so vocal against the obvious perversions, (homosexuality, drugs, abortions, etc.) the symptoms but fail to address the causes and be vocal to find real solutions. Pure religion, to visit orphans and widows in their distress James 1:27.

Maybe when we do what we should be doing, the wickedness will subside, if we scream at the symptom and fail to address the cause our efforts will be for naught. Arrogance is the enemy and it lives among us or maybe in us.

GENESIS - 01 - LOVE

Genesis 0:0; Before God put the plan into action, before Gen.1:1; God planned it all out. Everything in creation was preplanned, evolutionary theory is trial and error, evolve into something better. God created everything good and right the first time. When the Godhead was designing man in His image knew what it would take to save us from our sins, it would take Christ dying on the cross. The cross was preplanned as Paul says in Eph.1:4;  All brought about so we could all spend eternity in His presence. 1Tim.2:4; May these notes be a small help in you accomplishing the greatest work you’ll ever endeavor to do. Php.2:12;

GOD'S LOVE - GENESIS 1:1-25

God created a home for us to live in, Heb.3:4

First three days, God is creating the habitats to be lived in.

Day One

3 things - Empty Space, Earth, Light – God was the source.

Then God separated the darkness from the light by making the world spin.

A day = one revolution of the earth on its axis = 24 hours.

Time: past, present, future. Space: height, width, depth.

Matter: solid, liquid, gas. God: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Day Two

3 things – Water Above, Sky, Water Below

Water Above = in outer atmosphere in vapor form, 3,000 F. This creates a greenhouse effect, constant temperature, whole world had a tropical climate. High humidity, no need of precipitation Gen.2:6; High oxygen levels, water above created an inversion pushing oxygen to the earth’s surface, allowing for gigantism, dinosaurs. Water below (on earth), the Expanse (sky), in between.

Day Three

3 things – Dry Land, Seas, Vegetation

Dry Land – 7 continents, with 7 Seas between them.

Vegetation – fully grown, seed and fruit bearing plants and trees.

Which came first, soil or plants? God does both on same day.

Created with age. Impossible! Nothing is impossible for the Creator.

Is God a deceiver for making young earth look old? No – He told us He did.

Last three days, God now creates the inhabitants for the habitats.

Day Four

3 things – Sun, Moon and Stars, to fill the universe.

Sun to rule the day, moon to rule night. Stars to mark the seasons.

God created the light between the stars and earth.

What looks to be an old universe, is but a day old, created with age.

Can’t believe creation, how will you ever believe the judgement day? 2Pe.3:10;

Day Five

3 things - Birds, Living Creatures (in the seas), Sea Monsters (dinosaurs).

These fill the air and waters. Monster means over size.

Day Six

3 things - Cattle, Creeping Things, Beasts. Fill the dry land.

God rested – quit doing physical and now works on the spiritual, salvation of man.

Our calling today – Heb.4:10; don’t focus on physical, get into spiritual.

You must accept the supernatural power of God, creator of all, Col.1:15-16; Heb.11:6; Cannot reason science with scripture, God is calling for you to listen to Him over your faith in science. Light on Day 1 and the sun of Day 4. This was all done supernaturally and not with evolution. If you can’t accept creation then how can you accept the resurrection and judgement day, even eternity. Heb.11:1;

GOD'S JOY - GENESIS 1:26-31

Now the reason for creation, God created Man, on Day 6.

“THEN” God said - last of all – the reason for creation, MAN.

Let US make man in OUR image. The Godhead created Their children.

Mind - Intelligence  - the ability to reach correct conclusions and solve problems.

Soul - Imagination – power of creating mental images of what has never been experienced. To think outside the box, look beyond death.

Spirit - Emotions – responses to significant internal or external events.

When man applies all 3 correctly, he then has free will. Mk.12:30;

Genesis 2 is a detailed account of the creation of man in Gen.1:26f

God made man from dirt man’s chemical make up couldn’t come from ocean.

GOD'S PEACE - GENESIS 2:1-25

God created the opportunity for a personal relationship with Him.

God then made a garden in Eden:

Man walked with the Son of God, Gen.3:8; (cannot see God and live)

Man walked with creation, Gen.3:15; to cultivate and keep the garden.

Man walked with woman, Gen.3:23; God fashioned woman from a rib.

Woman created to be a helper, as the HS is our helper Jn.16:7; As taught in 1Cor.14:34-35; ask questions at home, that way she  stimulates the man to greater spiritual awareness, at home.

Adam was created with age, less than a day old, yet with full vocabulary, capable of going forth and multiplying. A scientist would say he appeared to be 30 yrs. old but he was less than 24 hrs. old.  Impossible! Not for God, have faith.

GOD'S PATIENCE - GENESIS 3:1 - 9:17

God’s patience runs out because of man’s sin and He uses the flood to stop sinful men from destroying the future for the righteous.

Adam’s sin – 1Cor.11:3; 15:22; he watched her, then she handed it to him. Adam listened to the woman instead of listening to God. Gen.3:17; First sacrifice for sin provided by God, Gen.3:21; Heb.9:22;

Cain refused to listen to God, his sacrifice was not of faith it was fabricated, Heb.11:4; by faith Abel… Ro.10:17; faith comes by hearing They knew how to be pleasing to God, Cain refused to obey. Cain’s wife was his sister.

Sons of God = Seth’s lineage Gen.4:26; married daughters of men = Cain’s lineage, because of beauty Gen.6:2; sacrificing spirituality for lust, lost in sin. These are not angels, angels have no gender, Mt.22:30; Mk.12:25;

God shortens man’s life span to 120 yrs. Gen.6:3; If you can’t find God within this period of time, you never will. To live longer only allowed men to perfect their sinful ways. God was sorry, possibly because He couldn’t perceive how wicked men could become. He knew we would sin but to what depth? Gen.6:6

Nephilim – in man’s DNA was ability to be all sizes and shades, Nephilim were tall and pygmies are short. No Nephilim today, men kill creatures larger than themselves. Ie elephants, tigers etc. Time to start new, Noah found favor and was instructed on what to do. It took 100 yrs to build the ark with his 3 sons and the help of animals, as people today use elephants with block and tackle, why not use dinosaurs? Man had dominion over the animals Gen.1:28; The flood lasted 1 year so the ark was a floating nursery, babies not full grown, eggs for reptiles, ample room even for baby dinosaurs. World population – 1 billion – 8 souls survived – see Gen.18:32;

Rained for 40 days and nights, water in the outer atmosphere came down eliminating the greenhouse effect, see day three in creation. Waters from below broke open and flooded the lands as well.  Results of flood itself. Oceans are the earth’s air conditioners and dry land acts as the furnaces. Once the world is entirely under water you have a massive drop in temperature creating polar ice caps ie. ice age. As waters receded the earth became exposed, temperatures went up and glaciers retreated.

Earth under water is what created the mountain systems, from the pounding of the water on the east coast pushed continent to buckle on west coast. Earth was rolling hills till after the flood. All mts show evidence of being under water.

Once water in our outer atmosphere was gone, the green house effect was gone, no more constant temperatures, now we have violent weather patterns, tornados, hurricanes, blizzards, plus the upheaval of mts. leaves us with earthquakes Ro.8:19f God doesn’t create disasters, mans SIN caused the flood, leaving us to live in a fallen world full of danger, which once was good Gen.1:31; Ro.8:20-22;

Greenhouse gone, so to is high oxygen levels making it impossible for gigantism so when the dinosaurs left the ark, they began to die off as they grew too large for the atmosphere to sustain them. Plant life was lost as well, because ultraviolet radiation and x-rays which used to be reflected away from the earth now reach plants and animals, killing off some plants which some animals were dependent upon, thus eliminating animal life as well.

Some dinosaurs are recorded in the Bible as seen in Job 40:15-24; 41:1-34; Google ‘bombardier beetle’. Fire may not be as we understand but could very well be a burning acid, fire breathing dragon. Last sightings of giant sea creatures, dinosaurs, were recorded in 15th century AD. All civilizations on the coasts have giant sea creature stories, why? Even in Asia some temples have perfect replica stone carvings of dinosaurs.

The claim the greenhouse model isn’t viable only means that science can’t understand how God worked it. Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, only means they   can’t understand but there is a lot they don’t understand, where did life come from?  Law of biogenesis is - life comes from life. We know life came from God. In Shem’s lineage we note the dropping of the ages in men, Gen.11:10f Shem 600; Shelah 433; Peleg 239; Terah 205; Abraham 175; Moses 120; Change in atmospheric conditions helped shorten our lives as well as animals.

GOD'S KINDNESS - GENESIS 8:20 - 10:32

Noah offers a sacrifice from clean animals Gen.7:2; A soothing aroma = Noah’s obedience is pleasing to God. God promises not to flood world again. Gen.9:20-22 Gen.9:1-7 man is commanded to be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth. In establishing the death penalty God establishes gov’ts. Rom.13:4;

Noah’s sin Gen.9:20-21; Possible PTSD – from knowing that the rest of mankind died in the flood. Turned to alcohol instead of God for comfort. Ham’s sin was to tell his brothers, tearing his dad down in the eyes of his brothers instead of covering up his dad himself, which they did, brother’s keeper. Canaan = trader, one who takes advantage of another for gain, gets cursed. Like father like son, Canaan the oldest, curse is the result of the known behavior.

Sons of God sin by refusing to go forth multiply and fill the earth. Instead, they build a tower, a city and a name Gen.11:4; 9:1; They speak one language, nothing they purpose will be impossible. Gen.11:6; Men today wish to kill God’s influence, to control the world, attacking the Bible.

Let US confuse their language (Father Son HS) Origin of languages which men today cannot explain. Origin of world religions, all knew of a garden, two people, tempter, flood sacrifice - these stories are consistent in all ancient religions, supports Bible. Origin of countries – languages and geography established borders. Origin of human differences, human DNA adjusts for climate and diet. Ham -Africa – black; Japheth – Europe – white; Shem – Asia – yellow Origin of human race – we all come from Adam and Eve. Marriage laws invoked when DNA was weakened Lev.18 Human DNA continues to weaken, opposite of evolution, to be stronger.

Kindness was not destroying our sinfulness again but to scatter men to protect us from tyrants, allowing us to try and find God on our own. Ac.17:24-28;

GOD'S GOODNESS - GENESIS 11:26 - 50

God knows a natural famine is coming, so He raises up a savior to save Egypt and surrounding countries, bringing the glory to God. Terah sins, God called Abraham while in Ur Ac.7:2-4; He tells his dad and his dad then takes control to go but only gets to Haran where he dies. Gen.11:31; God calls Abraham a 2nd time from Haran Gen12:1-3; Haran, Terah’s son sins, how we are not sure.Gen.11:28 He died before his father. It seems when a child dies before the father, in the OT, sin was the reason as we see in the following examples. Gen.38:6-10; Lev.10:1-3; Sons of God sin by selling their brother Joseph into slavery, Gen.37:18f

GOD'S FAITHFULNESS- GENESIS 12 - 25

The time was right to prepare a people for His Son. Abram’s heart was good, 1Sam16:7; Terah was turning to idols Jos.24:2,3; God spoke to Abram, Rom.10:17; Ac.7:2-4; Idols have no voice, Jn.10:4; God does everything perfectly to help Abram develop his faith. God Teaches Abram to Trust in God, Faith comes by hearing, Ro.10:17;

Gen.12  God’s Love

Blesses Abram 12:1-3 with His Word – He keeps His promises Ac.7:2f

Abram’s love grows as God shares more of His word with him.

Gen.13  God’s Joy

Abram shows his faith by giving Lot the choice direction to go.

Lot goes for instant gratification, greener pastures, lust of the eye, Gen.13:10;

God then shows Abram the land he will inherit. Vs.14-18;

Abram’s joy grows, trusting in God, then receives the blessing of God, land promise.

God cuts a covenant, styled after Suzerainty Covenant practiced back then, king to vassals.

Abram told the land promise not to be fulfilled for 400 yrs. Insight to God’s patience.

Patience happens when Abram trusts God’s land blessing to come true in 400 yrs. Heb.11:13-16;

Gen.16  God’s Kindness

Shows love to Hagar Mt.5:45; Be a child of God to all you meet.

The Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, return and submit to Sarai. Abram 86 yrs old.

Ishmael = God hears; Hagar = flight, fugitive;

Abram raises Ishmael as his own, with great love, in spite of Sarai’s attitude towards them.

Gen.17  God’s Goodness

God tells Abram (99) to circumcise all males as a sign of the covenant.

A moment in time to turn to, when you were committed to the Lord. Heb.8:10-12;

Abraham circumcises all, bringing all under his influence into his family, his goodness.

God sends the angels to rescue Lot by dragging him out of the city.

Lot had a chance to save sons in law but he appeared to be jesting. Ti.2:2;

Gentleness is doing what needs to be done, knowing the resistance from those your helping.

Gen.20  Self Control

God speaks to Abimelech, saving Sarah, could be pregnant, Abraham lied again.

Abraham prayed God heals Abimelech’s wives and maids to have children.

You will not get another chance to influence them because you didn’t trust them. Lk.9:49f

Abraham learned God is in control, he can count on that.

Gen.21   Heart

God knows Abraham is going to go through an emotional roller coaster so provides comfort.

Isaac born – God confers to send Ishmael away; God reaffirms promise to Hagar.

What is the matter with you Hagar? Remember Gen.11:16;

Abram makes peace with Abimelech at Beersheba = “well of seven” – 7 ewes given as witness.

Gen.22  Soul

God experiences the same when Jesus died on the cross.

Sacrifice of Isaac. Abraham fully trusts in God and obeys Heb.11:17-19;

Blessed for his obedience Gen.22:16-18; His brother Nahor has 12 sons named.

Bethuel one of his sons has Rebecca and Laban.

Death of Sarah, 137 yrs. purchased a cave, showing full respect to others.

Shows bargaining practices of the time, reinforcing date to be 2,000 BC

Teaches to respect the dead by honoring their bodies, mindful of others.

Two others found their wives at a well – Jacob & Moses.

Importance of marrying of similar faith base, background, etc.

Gen.25  Neighbor

Abraham marries Keturah, has 6 sons, sends them away, with gifts, (Midian)

Her sons represent 6 Arabic tribes east of Palestine.  Abraham dies at 175 yrs. old

Ishmael has 12 sons, named, Ishmael dies at 137 yrs. old

14 chapters on Abraham and as you follow his life, you witness his faith growing, as he learns more about God from the things he experienced. He had no prior knowledge of God other than the stories that he may have heard which were passed down from the tower of Babel. If we are the sons of Abraham then we too must learn to develop a faith like his that learns to put full trust in God’s Word, Gal.3:6-9; We also need to be looking forward to a home in heaven above. Heb.11:13-16; 12:22f;

GOD'S GENTLENESS GENESIS 25 - 34

Now we witness God’s gentleness in action as He works with Jacob. Gentleness is playing by the rules, working with who you have, regardless of their shortcomings, taking advantage of every opportunity while you have it. Gentleness is being merciful and forgiving and at the same time just and fair.

Gen.25   God’s Love

God tells Sarah, the reason for the twins wrestling, she in turn tells Jacob.

Jacob knowing the older will serve the younger, clings to his mother who is very spiritual.

God still willing to wrestle with us today, do we have the stamina of Israel.

Gen.33   God’s Gentleness

Both brothers kiss and weep, Esau accepts the gifts of Jacob, rides off with his 400 men.

Moves to Shechem buys land, makes an altar called it God, the God of Israel.

Gen.34   God’s Self Control

Doesn’t kill Simeon and Levi for using His name in vain.

Dinah gets raped, they plot by allowing the marriage if they get circumcised, then kill all.

They looted the town, took flocks and women and children, making Israel odious

"It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings."
