SONG OF SONGS INTRODUCTION
This incredible book is evidence for the existence of God. Written by Solomon sometime around 950 BC. It is an allegory of Christ’s love for His church. This is not a collection of thrown together ancient love poems and placed in the Old Testament. This book is penned by Solomon but written by the Holy Spirit as is every other book in the entire Bible. 2Tim.3:16-17; 2Pe.1;20-21;
There are those who will teach that God has written a book on the relationship between a husband and wife, teaching people how to date and respond to a suitor. This is so far from the truth, it wouldn’t be worth mentioning except the fact that most of Christian dumb teaches it this way. Do a simple internet search for Song of Songs and you will find this beautiful book being referred to as a sex manual, rare are those who teach it correctly, as Christ’s love for His church. They rob us of one of the most valuable books ever written.
To begin my defence for the allegorical interpretation, just investigate the use of the word love, of which Greek has four words, one being EROS which is sexual love, never used in Song of Songs in the Greek OT. There is STORGA – family love and PHILEO – friendship love. But love in Song of Songs is always AGAPA – seeking the best for another expecting nothing in return. AGAPA is to describe Christ’s love for us and how we are to love one another.
Ladies the man in this book is perfect in her description of Him, a description that lines up with two others found in the scriptures that describe Christ, not a perfect husband. His description of her, changes over time, showing progression, she’s learning, she’s changing, growing in confidence and abilities to share the truth. She also makes three major errors for which He corrects her. He makes no mistakes, reason being, He is Christ and she is either the church or preferably you the individual Christian reading this very beautiful love letter from God to you!
The Shulamite has two lovers, the King and a shepherd. We know that Jesus is King of Kings and is the Good Shepherd in the NT. Not two people, two offices.
One very interesting fact is that there are more than 70 pairs of matching words or phrases throughout the book that pulls the whole book together into one obvious song. There is a chart at the end of the notes, and I’ve listed them under each verse, identifying the pairs that are found in the verse elsewhere. This is solid evidence for it being inspired by God. Who writes with pairs? Possibly pointing to the fact that men need the Holy Spirit to understand the mysteries found in the OT.
To understand the book of Revelation, you need to understand the apocalyptic language used in the OT this helps to interpret the revelation. I treat Song of Songs the opposite way, reverse engineering maybe, that to understand this most complicated of books in the OT one must first come to Christ and have the veil lifted 2Cor.3:15-16; by being baptized into Christ, for the forgiveness of sins and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, as taught in Ac.2:38; The Holy Spirit will give us the wisdom we need to understand His Word. Jam.1:5; 1Jn.2:27;

Maybe this is the reason why there are so many foolish interpretations of Song of Songs? Because there are so many foolish men that teach, you can negate obvious commands of Christ, on how to get into His kingdom. Mt.28:19-20; 1Pe.3:21; Ac.22:16;
To your peril, you listen to such men, be honest with yourself, read for yourself, wrestle God for yourself, avoid church traditions Mt.15:15:3; and when they say it doesn’t matter, look into the matter all the more because it probably does matter.
Please give the notes a read through with an open mind and an open Bible. Look at all the cross references and realize, Song of Songs was written for your instruction, to give you hope to endure this perverse generation. Ro.15:4;
